Today's edition of the Secret Commentary is empty, because Dave failed to come up with something for it.
Outside of her own head, she’s grumbling with an excess of rancor.
Why I do believe my ship has sunk?
Because you’re cheering for serious relationships to develop among 8 year olds?
Hey, I saw romance childhood develop between 8-years old in many stories. The things is, so far Selkie had no potential male lead.
Many people forget that if you put a spoon and a bowl into the sink they have a relationship to each other. The term “-Ship” doesn’t have to be sexual or romantic; take “Friendship” for instance.
It’d be ironic if Selkie and Tehk got into it, and Truck came along and broke things up.
She should just burn him with eye lasers.
There *is* at least some sort of non-trivial relationship there; it underlies what may appear to be a bit of Selkie’s obsessing on Tekh, and *could* grow into a different sort of obsessing later after they both mature a bit. I’ve seen it in my own cohort and watched it time and time again later, theough my own offspring’s youth, and close to half the time that sort of more-than-usual intensity grows into closeness.
Given that human males’ brains seem to mature more slowly than do human females’, and that Author Dave has set up a situation in which Sarnothis are more similar than not to humans, Selkie and Tekh *could* end up growing very close indeed, *LATER*. May the comic be around long enough to get there, or at least in an epsilon neighborhood of sufficient size.
