Remember, just keep chanting “Everything’s fine” while gently patting and hugging your child. It’s okay to try to figure out how to build a mega-psi-dampener in your head and desperately try to remember if your house insurance is up-to-date. But always be sure to comfort your child and calm them down while you do that.
It’s right there in big print in The Mother’s Handbook.
Dave, follow up question on the whole energy concept. If you have “your way” will you be explaining how they discovered this ability and how they learned that specific runes on stone respond the way they do to specific types of energy? I’m really interested in this.
Do me a flavor, let’s pretend this is an Anime. That beam that they fired off.. Could one of Selkie’s people do that given enough strength and knowledge?
I wanna know if given the right situation can they do a Kamehameha wave.
The runes are the same thing as the green lines we’ve seen on sarnothi tech before, except instead of acting as self-contained relays, they act as focal points for latching weak tethers to for movement, and to connect the stones together in a marionette.
The giant beam visible from space is not something any one Echo could do, that was multiple Echoes utilizing a cannon-type weapon. No single Echo is on that level.
@Nyerguds :
Several pages back, I had claimed that Selkie didn’t seem to be able to do much with her untrained powers, and so a lack of training might not be the worst thing ever. You disagreed, pointing out that she’d burned a hole in her wall before. I hadn’t been fully convinced then, but would like to apologize to and thank you now; you were totally on the money. Good jeebus did I underestimate the amount of raw power she could bring to bear. 0_o
Wait, when did Selkie burn a hole in a wall? Amanda did that at least twice but all I remember is Selkie breaking a couple of expensive Sarnothi devices.
I had to go back through the archives to compare the fire eyes of the Echoes we’ve seen. Selkie trounces both Scar and Plo Quar by far. Also it was mentioned that the dampener was tuned far higher than it should have been for a child, and reasoned that Plo Quar used herself as a baseline. Fun to see that, nope, she used Selkie as a baseline.
The real question remains; will Plo Quars dampener allow Selkie to grow into a “normal” echo (essentially stripping away her godlike powers and just leaving fantastic ones behind) or without the dampener, will her full powers eventually return and continue to grow.
I would say based on taking out the target that currently she is well above normal now. She just needs to “warm up” so it doesn’t hurt, but the power level is clearly there
Judging by Plo Quar’s face… Selkie’s power is no average. AT ALL.
A toddler that hasn’t developed any emotional control or sense of other with that kind of power. The limiter continues to make sense.
Farewell Mr. Stoney, we hardly knew you…
Mr. Stoney is in a better place… in the upper atmosphere moving at mach 3.
Better places I think… plural.
Although its possible at least the ones going up got there.
Hello, Mr. Lava?
OMG I love this so much. Peak toddler right there. Dave, you must have experience with kids!
Extremely powerful mommy echo freaked at the magnitude of toddler daughter’s power?
I don’t think any of us saw this coming.
TV Tropes: Oh crap.
Well. No wonder they broke Then’s very expensive toy.
Selkie is an aquatic Anakin Skywalker….
The Schwartz is indeed strong in her [mechanical harsh breathing sounds]

The goal is to get it so that your panic instant response is that, which can be difficult.

‘S all good. But yea, she’s a little power plant, that one. Possibly a nuclear one.

… Yeah, we’re now definitely into “Cobble together a dampener with what you have on hand and worry about side effects later territory.

This is feeling very reminiscent of Agatha as a child from Girl Genius.
It’s been Agatha all along??
(Wait, wrong Agatha.)
So… turns out she does have a bit of a record of breaking things?
