Our girl at the corner.

Chanelle: Wait, so you're mad about their parents?
Keisha: Ugh. Kinda.
Chanelle: Then tell them that. They won't know if you don't!
Chanelle: They're your friends. You can tell them if they're hurting your feelings.
(Selkie is spying from around the corner. Her face looks briefly sad, then she bolts off)

I'm tempted to embed this page with the TF2 voicelines that callout enemy Spies.
Did her dad tell her that too?
Clear communication: radical concept.
Joking aside, speaking the unspoken is by definition difficult, especially if you’re already close to someone and take a certain level of understanding for granted.
“That’s her in the spot… light.”
Getting New religion…. oh no, I’ve said too much.
…I wish my Mom had given me the owners manual for being a human. When we got a new car, when I was seven, they made a big deal of the “Owners’ Manual”. I asked my Mom, “Where’s my manual?”
With a straight face she said, “I lost it.”
Dave, is this why Selkie has to have Pohl teach her how to Echo?, ‘cause they lost her manual?
That was just a dream, that was just a dream.
Oof. I hope Selkie was able to hear the bit about parents, and not just that her friends are mad at her for seemingly no reason.
Chanelle is speaking words of wisdom, though. I foresee a future in conflict resolution for her.
Oof… Once again, Selkie’s need to be sneaky to find out stuff comes back to bite her.
So we’ll adjusted I wanna commend her dad his words have reached his child so well
That penultimate panel proves that a whole face is not necessary to convey mental state; well-played!
Best Case scenario: She DID hear. Selkie will thus tell her fellow Adopteds, who will then apologize to George and Keisha; then everyone (including Chanelle) will go down to the soda fountain for strawberry phosphates(Selkie has a strong black tea with a slice of strawberry) and a party order of fried cheese curds.
I love the specificity of the drinks
Eyes and eyebrows convey a lot of what is used to identify as emotion. Part of the reason why I think they tend to add eyebrows to animals for characters that are anthropomorphic, so people can understand their emotions better, eg zootopia. Animals have different ways of showing their emotions, like their ears. Side note, but one of the reasons why I had issues with the cgi version of the Lion King. Obviously they didn’t add in animal eyebrows to convey emotions, but even the animated version was better at conveying emotion how an animal would with things like sorrow and fear.
I now realize after posting that it didn’t post as a reply to brother parvus like I wanted it to. Oh well.
