“Shimmers” is a bit of irreverent slang, referring to Kan Ge Tho.
Today's edition of the Secret Commentary is empty, because Dave failed to come up with something for it.

LOL So teenage hormones are a thing in both species.
Nicely done on the visual portraying gien’s dislike while the dialogue is still welcoming.
Species gotta propogate somehow. 🙂
Yeah, Gien goes from all smiles and light when talking DIRECTLY to Selkie last page to a bland, yet polite, greeting to Avery’s wife and kid, to outright disgust at the twins showing up unannounced… Yeah, like i said further down the page, i don’t see Gien staying in power much longer, for a variety of reasons…
Curious to know how twins work with Sarnothi. Is it basically two eggs pop out at a time?
Could be a split, like with human identical twins.
So far as I’m aware, a split like that is the only way to get identical twins in any species, so probably.
Might be worth your time to watch this then.
There’s actually a lot more types of twins than most people have heard o

2 eggs one cup?
You are a bad man!
Could be. I noticed the spots are mirrored on them. Nice touch.
I didn’t know they worshipped a Christian god or something similar.
Well, Benny has been living in America for a long time, right? That kind of reference may simply be more intuitive to him now than his own religion?
Just because he’s the Father doesn’t mean it’s anything like Xianity. Just ask Odin Allfather.
And don’t forget Father Dagon.
I think it’s been established that inter-Clan relationships are normally “not done”, so Benny’s obvious interest in the twins might cause some disapproval among the natives.
Maybe why he said that part in English.

they’re probably gonna have to get over that right quick given their reduced population.
I figure that’s 30% cultural, possibly a 30% biological reason, and at least 40% “Dave does not want to figure out how the hell he’s supposed to colour half-breeds”.
Uh… did you forget Selkie is from mixed clans?
Did you forget that’s unconfirmed? Only Plo-Quar knows for sure.
In fact, that her colouring is very classically “Jin’Sorai” might be foreshadowing that K’Limdai is mistaken about being Selkie’s father. This is how soap opera plots work!
Coloring could be explained via the mtDNA line, so the coloring always defaults to the mother’s clan.
‘Twins, Basil. Twins!’
“It’s not my Fawlty!”
Put your tongue back in your mouth, boy.
It’s really amazing how Gien manages to become less likeable every time he shows up in the comic.
Fake cheer and encouragement to the girl he’s got a use for as long as she will “take up her role” which ultimately means doing what *he* says “for the good of the people”, poorly disguised and reluctant bare minimum of courtesy for people he has no use for.
Frankly, I suspect he’s powermongering in part because he’s NOT an Echo, and an Echo is usually the leader.
Scar doesn’t want to lead( I forget if the rest of Havei Jin’Suir knows that Scar is The Old Farmer), Pohl intercedes with the dry-breathers, and thus is away most of the time, so it falls to Gien until Selkie comes of age, perhaps. And if Selkie is used to taking cues from Gien instead of asserting herself…
Which may may very well be entirely necessary, as she’s being raised by a human. She’s going to have NO idea how most things are done for a long time.
Much like the way that younger members of 1st-gen immigration families don’t want to keep doing things the way they did them “Back in the Old Country…” i highly doubt that he will be able to maintain that “Old-Country” class/clan/power structure here… unfortunately for Gien though, he’s part of that “Old Guard” and is unlikely to be in a position of significant influence for much longer… especially the way he seems to regard the teens approaching with such disgust… just reading between the lines, but I’ll bet that Selkie and Pohl and yes, even Then and Bennie will be having more significant influence on all of the new refugees and immigrants than he will. If he’s not careful he’s going to die a bitter old man yelling at those young whipper-snapper kids to get off his lawn (or the under-water Sarnothi equivalent of a lawn, that is) and be just thought of as “that creepy old guy that just can’t let go of the past”
P.S.: Benny’s got a Crush!…
Hey, Benny, you’re about to find out how difficult it is to hide a boner in a human swimsuit.
Those underwater houses kind of look like the head of the “Iron Giant” buried up to the nose region of the face.
Bruce I was thinking they look like the cheap cave decore I can get at petco for my fish tanks…
