They have the “dodge” part of the game down nicely.

I got some fan art sketches in this morning I wanna share, courtesy of Mike L:
Thanks Mike!
I had written a "good to see you" line for George before I remembered that seeing Sandy and Wu isn't a reunion meeting for him. Doh. XD
…and Heather blows her sneak attack roll…
No, Heather, the teacher is being extremely fair.
I’m not sure I’d have been as restrained in his place. : /
Agreed.
Heh, that kind of thing is right up my alley. I’d also remove one team member of the attackers for each “hit.” The’d all get to run around the gym while everyone else played. (after one or two laps sit on bleachers)
I… I LOVE Sandy and Wu. I want to adopt THEM.
First thing I thought of when I read this comment was an online comic strip about a girl and her raccoon. 🙂
Nah. The “Not Fair” wasn’t cause of the teacher. Heather’s in a row with her best friends. One of the things they used to do together was pick on the people in that dodgeball team. She’s hoping that by picking on them again, she’ll get back into the good graces of her former friends. Instead she gets called ‘dumb’ AND will now miss out on dodgeball. It’s not a nice thing she did by any means, but it’s completely understandable as the actions of a child.
… Especially as at least one of the former friends has been clearly shown to be a bit of a bully in the past. Now, not as an insider to that group, but as a potential target, this could turn NASTY. Though, lucky for her, I don’t think Heather knows that yet.
Heather’s attempt at getting back into Amanda’s and Keisha’s good graces went, fortunately, bust.
Also, I love the reactions from Selkie & co. when the “play ball” is called. (Nevermind that it’s not called by the teacher.) Diving for the floor to be safe is something that’s very realistic for boys of that age group; they see it in the movies and cartoons, they copy it. Then they eventually learn that doing so often hurts more than whatever you were evading in the first place. 😛
The- the gym teacher is being fair!
The gym teacher is being FAIR?
Can that really happen? ‘Cause I recall gym teachers who sorted children (implicitely) into “useful to augment the school trophy case” and “collateral damage”!
I just noticed the Innsmouth teeshirt in the fan art. Lovecraft rules!
I like Sandy’s interpretation of how to play doge ball.
“RUNRUNRUN” Pretty much squares with my own observations.
Are kids allowed to wear skirts in gym class? When I was in elementary school if you didn’t show up in pants and sneakers you were sitting out the entire period and if you did it too many times, Mom and Dad got a note reminding them to send you in wearing proper attire on those days.
Also…I feel so bad for Heather. I just want to give her a hug and find her some friends that don’t suck.
D: Poor Heather… she just wants her best friends back.
But I seriously doubt she’d be able to do that by breaking the rules. XD
Great strip, Dave:) Um, the Shards site is down in case you are wondering. Dreamhost, our server provider, is having issues. Apologies to any readers who also visit Selkie. We don’t have any other way to get the word out and they say it is being handled now.
Oh server issues sucks. Hope it gets resolved quickly.
Hopefully she learns being mean isn’t the way to make friends or impress others.
I’m almost hoping she joins Selkie and the gang after she realizes just how much it sucks not to be part of the in crowd.
Okay maybe I am really late on missing this but are Sandy and Wu a reference to Sandra and Woo?
Yes indeed. I even got a nod on their fan art page for it. XD
