From an early point in things, I knew I wanted Wu and Sandy to eventually become, at some stage, either a couple or siblings. I hope it's clear which of the two I chose.
I wonder if the people that came in together with Sandy and Wu are married to each other and is it just me or just the guy looks like Sandy and the woman looks like Wu?
I just had a funny thought. It’s 5 years from now. They are in high school. They meet somebody and introduce themselves as brother and sister. The other student looks back and forth from the red-headed white girl to the Chinese boy, and says, “One of you is adopted” (brilliant deduction, right?)
They point at each other and simultaneously say, “He is” and “She is”.
Ah, that was the levity I needed after reading this page. The Orphanage, as run by M.s Lillian, isnt so bad. But Tropes like Li’l Orphan Annie, Oliver Twist, etc. are there for a reason. I needed that laugh! Thanks!
I would not be saying this if the couple idea had not be mentioned in the commentary buuuut. If there lives turn full anime/ K drama all it would take would be one of them legally divorcing there parents (yes that is a real thing and biological children can do it as well) as an adult and it be all be above board legally for relationship shenanigans after the age of 18 if that where the wind took em regardless.
Aah yes, that old mantra of ecchi anime everywhere:
“We’re not related by blood!”
Or somewhat less often:
“It’s ok! She’s my SECOND cousin!”
Or discouragingly often:
“It’s ok! She’s actually a thousand years old!”
I also adore Nowi, and she’s my headcanon partner for M!Robin (because Gaius X Tharja OTP forever). A lot of people don’t like that, but I’ve noticed that as a female, it tends to be overlooked when I do pairings like that versus when male friends do it. That discrepancy in judgments is a whole other kettle of worms.
My first Nah was with Vaike as a dad, and she ended up pretty strong as a crit-happy Assassin. I also like thematically how between her dimbulb dad and her impetuous mom, that poor Nah was… just so put-upon.
Honestly adopted siblings not being able to marry I do kinda find a bit idiotic. I’m kinda surprised something like that hasn’t been brought up to the Supreme court yet TBH.
I think this nice mixed race couple said, “Let’s adopt a child and if that works out, we can go on and have another one.” And then they got to the orphanage and he said, “Wu is SO fantastic! I am bonding so hard already… but Sandy is so right for us.” And she said, “I don’t want to pass up Sandy, I would regret it all my life. But Wu fits all the things we discussed. He’s such a great person.” “How can we possibly decide! It would break my heart.” “Well at least we would get to still see a lot of the one we don’t get because they are such good friends…”
Awwwww, ahhh!

Oh, well done, Dave, TKO to the feels, in the first round. You win.
Yeah, but look at how much fun they’re having with the situation as it is. They’ve seen their friends find families, and have matured enough to be happy for them for it (as opposed to the initial feelings of betrayal we saw before). They’re good kids, they’ll get folks of their own sooner or later (it still hasn’t been super long in comic time compared to real world time)
Every now and then I wonder if the final episode of this comic will show George’s birth parents finally coming back for him — and it turns out that they really *are* ninja astronauts returning from their undercover work in China, as foreshadowed back in episode 18.
Hey Dave, I see you’re having an experiment with the speech balloons: no outlines and no tails. It works, and I rather like the effect — which surprises me. Care to say what made you want to try it?
OHHHHHHHHHHHH
Oh how wonderful! Good for Wu and Sandy! It’s nice to see some of the other kids being adopted. 🙂
Yay!
Such huge smiles on their faces.

I meant to say does the guy* I don’t know how to edit my comment.

Adoption is not the most likely explanation for it. And once the other student has seen their parents all signs point to ‘patchwork family’

Japan sure is interesting, isnt it?
“It’s ok! She’s actually a thousand years old!”
As a Fire Emblem fan who likes playing Nowi, this trope always makes me cringe.
I also adore Nowi, and she’s my headcanon partner for M!Robin (because Gaius X Tharja OTP forever). Now, Nowi x Donnel or Nowi x Ricken on the other hand? That squicks me out a bit. Because she IS an ages old dragon, and they ARE children.
(And also because it’s a waste of a parental unit for Nah. Nowi X Henry is cute and fun and makes more sense than Ricken stats-wise!)
My first Nah was with Vaike as a dad, and she ended up pretty strong as a crit-happy Assassin. I also like thematically how between her dimbulb dad and her impetuous mom, that poor Nah was… just so put-upon.
Ha! That does sound entertaining both thematically and from a stats standpoint!
I loved the derpy Morgan with serious Nah antics for similar reasons. Morgan clearly taking after her mom, and Nah clearly taking after her dad.
To quote Joey the Animeman “It’s not incest if you say NO CHROMO.”
Oops, Gigguk said it in his review of Domestic Girlfriend, not Joey. My bad
First one is basically the entire series Marmalade Boy. 76 episodes of “we aren’t related, bit are we?”

Awwwwwwwwww!….although this makes me sad again for Keisha…still, awesome.
Keisha doesn’t seem too broken up about it.
I also feel bad for George, Both of them deserve happy homes!

For some weird reason I always forget George is also an orphan.
Hehe, I forgot Keisha is still an orphan. How complementary of us! 😀
Every now and then I wonder if the final episode of this comic will show George’s birth parents finally coming back for him — and it turns out that they really *are* ninja astronauts returning from their undercover work in China, as foreshadowed back in episode 18.
That last panel just made my day!
So happy!
AHHHHHHHHH <333333
So they weren’t sitting on the floor, and Dave had an even bigger surprise for us.
Look at those smiles! There is nothing better than getting to stay with your best friend forever.
Hey Dave, I see you’re having an experiment with the speech balloons: no outlines and no tails. It works, and I rather like the effect — which surprises me. Care to say what made you want to try it?
Aaarrggh fuck. No, that’s not an experiment, it’s an accident. Saw it this morning and meant to fix it when I got home, and guess what I didn’t do.

I WAS wondering if we were due for a style change since Mary wasn’t in the current style
