Also, it doesn’t matter at all that the uncle is speaking Sarnothi. Tone of voice and body language are universal enough, that Amanda understands very clearly Tehk is in just as much trouble as she is.
From whats been said my reading is that while the content is cultural the method of delivery not so much. Calling Selkies clan melodramatics is probaly not see as “wrong” but calling an individual that to there face while not seen as “Wrong” it probaly is seen as picking a fight or being rude to some extent.
Judging by her eyes and mouth in panels 1 and 3, Amanda’s motives for making the panel 4 offer were actually a bit nicer and less self-serving than she’s willing to admit to in panel 5. She really did feel a surge of sympathy for someone saying “I don’t need friends, anyway,” because she’s said that a lot herself.
Amanda’s back to not sucking.
Also positive that no parent is blaming this on the other kid, or species stuff!
I am very relived that Tehk’s uncle is not ignorant and very aware of his nephews pretence to trying to verbally dominate a situation.

I didn’t know about the uncle. I still wanna know if the goading thing is a culture thing.

Amandaaaaa… You are getting sleeeeepyyyy…. When I clap my hands you will no longer feel like getting in fiiiiiights
So much love for this! I’d probably ship them if they were about 8-10 years older, but they are on the way to being awesome friends.
Heck, I ship it anyway! XD
Clearly it’s a Friend-Ship. For now.
TV Tropes: Toy Ship.
Flawless attempt, failure to succeed
Ahh, so he’s already in the habit of egging people on. Can’t say I have much sympathy for him here.
Obviously they should be stuck doing homework together as a detention thing, with their respective caregivers present-if-possible!
