I don’t know, Amanda can be a pain with Selkie because thats what she is used to, but she has started to accept her as her sister. Hopefully its not a Selkie bullying scheme… but another sort…
If I recall correctly (no Guarantee), the device was labled something like, “Budding Authors’ Writing Desk,” when she got it for Christmas. But I’m often wrong … And may be here, also.
Why Raven you ask? Well Dodson died in 1898 or so, but still his works have influenced many authors, and from time to time there is a literary reference made that hints to a work outside this or that Comicverse. Why a Raven, you ask, for a writing Desk? And answer came there none. And this is scarcely odd, because; they are both frequently written upon.
See none and upon are feminine rhymes, and … Quoth the Raven, Never mind
The lines, ” …and answer came there none. And this is scarcely odd…,” come from the Carroll poem, The Walrus and the Carpenter. “They are both frequently written upon,” is the most obvious answer to, “How is a Raven like a writing desk?” Being asked some 20 years after the publishing of Poe’s The Raven, (1845).
I dont like how Andi jumps to romance as soon as her daughter mentions writing a story about a boy. She’s eight. If she was writing something romantic she would probably say so. Adults can be overeager to assume kids are interested in each other romantically.
Considering how much of our lives are taken up with matters of sexuality, romance and family, I imagine that most people have a hard time remembering the pre-pubescent mindset even exists, much less putting themselves into it for interactions.
Yeah, what’s your point? “I don’t like that Andi does this” isn’t making any claim that it’s unrealistic. The last sentence of their comment even says it’s something that adults often do.
I admit, I’ve teased my son about girls for a few years in a joking way. I also make sure to let him know that I’m only teasing and I try not to make fun too much.
Man, I got so fed up with everyone interpreting *everything* in terms of sex that I invented an entire fic form to explore the ways in which Intimacy exists outside of a sexual context: the Five Moments of (Nonsexual) Intimacy (FMI or FMNI) form.
I’ve written quite a number of them by now, as well as drawn a set of Christmas pics centered on this idea. Two of my fellow authors have given it a spin, but I’m still hoping to see more; I’d like for it to become as ubiquitous as the 5+1 fic form.
Anyone who wants an example can find the link under my name, there, to my fluffiest and most harmless FMI fic, Fluff Drabbles (which has a link to the series, in case you’d like more — not all of it so harmless).
If you choose to explore my other work (mostly Person of Interest fics, at the moment), bear in mind that it covers controversial subjects, contains Mature Content, and can be intense (including depictions of panic attacks). And I don’t use “Mature Content” to mean “sexytimes” — in fact, very few of my fics contain anything like romance or shipping (and the ship fics tend to be dramatic response fics… one of them’s currently unraveling a coercive sexual relationship into a consensual, sensual, but nonsexual relationship).
Wow, I wasn’t expecting this turn of events and (understandably) neither was Andi. I am both intrigued and uneasy which means I can’t wait for the next comic!
yeah, i don’t get that one either… why would she want to hide a body? unless Amanda wants to invite Tehk over on a day that she knows Selkie will be coming over, has him hide, then tries to get HIM to jump-scare SELKIE with the glowing eyes… unbeknownst to her that the story got mangled in the telling such that Tehk is the Echo!, and Selkie is the Normal one…
Or… she could be joking, in the way 8 and 9 year olds can do. (She’s 9 now, she already had her birthday.) That’s definitely the sort of joke Selkie would make, right? We’re just not used to hearing it from Amanda. If Andi is going to tease her about “boys,” it’s only fair to tease back.
Also… what she really wants from Tehk? She’s a writer. She’s writing an adventure story about a boy (not a girl) with glowing eyes. I think this is research! She wants to pick his brains for details to make her story a better story.
Well, I’m worried about it. But not very worried about it. This has been Andi’s reaction to them from the start. She resented Selkie because Selkie messed up her plans to get back together with Todd, Selkie messed up her leverage to get Todd to form a family with her and Mandy, and is part of an Alien Invasion of Aliens into her State and Town, who are Alien to Andi. She kinda gets to play the part of Greek Chorus, or Everyman, here.
andi may think of herself as the tollerent, progressive hipster, but in my experience you can´t just shake off how you were raised that easily – and andy was raised by hard-hearted, less then tollerant person. some of the hate+prejudice she learned in her childhood is bound to stll be lurking in her subconscious
You said that well. I hadn’t been able to articulate that, but; Yeah, what you said, and the way you said it.
I had something like that they ught, but like Jello with fresh Pineapple in it, … it just would not gel.
I love how Amanda’s reaction to Andi’s “A boy huh?” has an implied “why is that a big deal?” in the question mark after yeah. Pretty much my reaction to that sort of thing at 8. Like, I didn’t understand at all why everyone kept trying to separate the boys and girls, or pit us against each other.
Andi, you really gotta work on your xenophobia. Amanda’s sister is “one of the Sarnothi”.
I suspect another Selkie bullying scheme in the making, would be nice if she just ended up making a friend though. :3
I don’t know, Amanda can be a pain with Selkie because thats what she is used to, but she has started to accept her as her sister. Hopefully its not a Selkie bullying scheme… but another sort…
Hm… If she tried to make him stop bother Selkie, that might be sweet too.
awwwww Amanda has a co conspirator!
Can you *write* on a drawing table? (I dunno, my writing is so bad I gotta use a computer if I *ever* want to be able to read it…)
Yes. There is nothing to the design that inhibits the drawing of symbols that are interpreted as letters which form words.
Amanda and Tehk? Holy Unholy Alliance, Batman!
Amanda! Rule #2!
Also rule #18
At least it isn’t Rule 34.
There are children here.
There are only 25 “Rules for Smarty Kids”
This was supposed to be a link (not sure what went wrong with that)

Li’l Raven writing desk, not drawing table. Per comic #868. W.O.G.

“Why is a raven like a writing desk?” was the Mad Hatter’s question in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

They both have inky quills.
I kinda hate jokes/puns/etc. that require you to know trivia from an era generations before you were born….

You mean like adults are oft to do in real life?
Yea, mentioning the oposite sex around family would get kid me teased mercilessly. It sucks but it’s def not just an Andi problem for
once.
Yeah, what’s your point? “I don’t like that Andi does this” isn’t making any claim that it’s unrealistic. The last sentence of their comment even says it’s something that adults often do.
My point is that slice of life comics tend to imitate life.
I agree that it’s a realistic attitude for Andi to have. I still don’t like it.
8 is generally 3rd grade. I’ve had *second graders* talk about their boy/girlfriends during my years as an instructional assistant…
Kids in kindergarden will claim each other as boyfriend/girlfriend even if they barely understand what those terms mean.
I admit, I’ve teased my son about girls for a few years in a joking way. I also make sure to let him know that I’m only teasing and I try not to make fun too much.

“We can hide a body in here, right?”
Wow, Amanda is acting like Selkie now.
They grow up so fast now-a-days don’t they? One day they’re playing with dolls and before you know it…
yeah, i don’t get that one either… why would she want to hide a body? unless Amanda wants to invite Tehk over on a day that she knows Selkie will be coming over, has him hide, then tries to get HIM to jump-scare SELKIE with the glowing eyes… unbeknownst to her that the story got mangled in the telling such that Tehk is the Echo!, and Selkie is the Normal one…
maybe she thinks both of them, or all young Sarnothi can do glowing eyes? She definitely knows Selkie can do it

The landlord was probably going to repaint the place between tenants anyway and probably doesn’t really care if they painted it.
XD Yours or his? Cuz I doubt you’d be able to hurt him.
And, the realization that she ENTIRELY misconstrued something…
Homicidal Rage =/= Tsundere.
Amanda is writing a story about a boy with glowing eyes? I’m sure her new friend knows all about that!
I think we’re going to be seeing a “No one gives my sister a hard time but ME!” situation coming up.
Oh, I hope so! But we shall see.
It might also be, “This kid knows secret stuff about Selkie. Better find out what it is, because you just never know when you’ll want leverage.”
is no one else worried about andi´s knee-jerk reaction to amanda befriending one of ‘them’?
Well, I’m worried about it. But not very worried about it. This has been Andi’s reaction to them from the start. Interesting twist to make the hipster artist type the intolerant one, but also consistent with her shitty views on adoption too so yea.

And Andi isn’t handling THAT very well, either!
