He might go back to being a jerk once he realizes how weak Selkie’s Echo powers are, but right now I think he’s just very impressed. Someone being an Echo is a very Big Deal to him.
Notice, though, that Te Fahn doesn’t look at all happy.
Because if he knows she’s weak… She’s gonna be pressed between two options…
She can excuse her weakness with two sentence. “My moms crippled me so I woulds be safe among humans. The Echoes training me says I’m luckies to even haves this muches. ”
On the one hand, that would probably shut Tehk up. On the other… That’s DEEPLY personal.
Can you not use the freaking term ‘cripple’. Her Mom didn’t ‘cripple’ her. Her mother surpressed her powers to keep her safe from being used as a tyke bomb.
Cripple is an insult against people who can’t walk.
Really though, glowing eyes aren’t all THAT amazing biologically, at least to the degree Selkie can do it. Lots of sea creatures can bioluminescence. Maybe a little surprising but could easily be written off as a thing some Sarnothi can do without having to explain the whole “magic” side of things. I mean for crimes sake we are talking about a largely “alien” species from the human perspective.
All true, but the “largely alien species” part is actually the problem here.
Most people don’t know about natural bioluminescence, and someone that’s a lot more…shall we say…cliche minded…can easily take this the wrong way. Thankfully she only goofed in front of kids that already accept her, and a responsible teacher that will quickly find out the truth as soon as she can.
I, … I.think. Tehk might have changed his mind? He seems so …IDK, smiling in frame four and gleeful in frame five. Maybe because he lost everything, and he .Dont. .Want. To Feel like a refugee, (don’t want to feel like a refugee). I think Georgie might have some competition for the attentions of HRH Miss Princess Terrorhammer. Not sure … Just what I’m thinking.
The problem with snap judgements when you meet someone and start getting to know them, is that there is so much more to people than what’s on the surface. Selkie was at fault for this, too. And now Mr. I’m too defensive for my shirt, defensive for my shirt, so defensive it just hurts, (I have disdain for you all), now, he’s tasting his own medicine. Ha-ha! Take that, Tehk!
And I quote from MY school experience, “Well everyone in my family has their own horse.” Liar, liar, pants on fire. … Only it WAS true, I was wrong, her family really owned 5 horses. So, yeah Tehk, I feel for ya.
Something to consider. How long has it been since the echoes have been not in the main city? Long enough for someone Selkie’s age to not have actual memories but only the stories from their parents? That would make echoes something like a legend to anyone Selkie’s age and younger. Or, if they have vague memories, still be a legend, just not as much of one.
Echoes aren’t that rare in sarnoth proper from what I remember, it’s more of an issue for the refugees who only had Pohl, Scar and the now absent Plo Quar before Selkie.
Now that the secrets out I’m wondering how worried we should be about a kidnapping attempt. I mean all it takes is one desperate refugee that wants to take their family “home” seeing Selkie as that ticket to do so.
I kinda want to see her come into her full echoeyness
Oh Selkie, you’ve really stepped in it now. DX And I’m guessing Tehk’s trying to be a jerk. He doesn’t seem the type to flatter folks.

She does look concerned. Though I’m not sure if it’s just cuz of that? It’s probably a contributing factor but not the entire reason.

If a disable person met the man who shot his knee caps, he would not shout ‘you disabled me’. Cripple has negative connotations for real reasons.
You know how retard became a taboo word even for describing the retarded, and now kids call each other autistic? This PC crap doesn’t work.
Put a cork in it Zach. Your troll is showing.
Hard stop to this argument now, please.
Speaking all both parties even though I’m only replying to one
Tch. Pesky plagues.

Between Selkie being a kid and her personality, that secret was going to come out quickly.
Nope NOW Tek is like Okay she’s a Jin Sorai which is kinda sucky but she’s an ECHO and that’s COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

Verily, the defecation hath struck the rotary air-moving device!
Exactly! The excrement has hit the extractor!
I’ve been reading Tehk as Tenk, and remembering Tank. This is moving so much faster.
Yeah, i feel halfway run over, too.
te fahn looks awfully anxious 8C but i love selkie doing the eyes, its fun to see everybodys reactions
