I think that this Saturday will be a bonus Sketch Saturday because I owe myself the traditional anniversary Toddler Selkie sketch that I forgot about last Friday. So, come back Saturday for toddler Selkie. ๐
Also I will say this here even though it will be addressed in later strips, but the “respiratory medicine” Jessie is referring to is the dechlorinator. More details later.
This was originally going to be a Friday strip for cliffhanger purposes, but holding this strip out for Friday required my Wednesday strip to be full of fluff and non-essentials. It was basically a full page of Mina and the Principal bickering. I think this page offers enough of that to get the point across.
Hm… now what do we have here?
*Deep exhale* Whoo boy. I really hope that things don’t go bad here. To be honest though, I think that last panel there is the start of Selkie and Amanda perhaps not quite becoming friends yet, but at least trying to be less hostile with each other. Which, let’s be honest, is something I think we all wanted to see.
Friendemies!
Frenemies is the correct term, I think. ๐
Looks to me like someone’s feeling guilty.
Or at least wants her to know that, even if she doesn’t like Selkie her getting hurt wasn’t part of the plan. People are finicky about that sort of thing.
We can only hope!
Of course people are finicky about others getting hurt. If you’re behaving in an abhorrent fashion, and you’re aware of the fact you’re doing so…The last thing you want, is for your victims to get hurt–that’s the line where a troublesome amount of other people will start to intervene against the aggressor.
Oh shit…
Yeah, I’m hearing the theme from Jaws, too.
Dah-dum… dah dah DAH-dum…
Given her past lack of guilt I think that Amanda’s come to kick Selkie while she’s down… But who knows? Maybe seeing someone get rattled around like a doll is enough to change her? The mean kids I knew in school wouldn’t have cared…
I donยดt think thatยดs what Amanda has in mind. She is not stupid enough to attack Selkie while there are adults within earshot.
Looks like Selkie is going to flush RIGHT THERE. The school is aware of “bathroom issues” – that she has to visit the little girls’ room frequently – but probably thinks it is more kidney or bladder related than it is “stick your face in a bowl of water and inhale”.
I can see Jessie freaking massively.
Plus, soaking your torso while lying under an electric blanket is probably not a good plan.
She’s worried about Selkie, that’s so cute.
watch it be a total troll and not even be amanda XD
This could be an interesting development. The sluggish blood seems to be getting to Selkie, leaving her near-helpless and incoherent, and it seems her long-time rival is showing up.
Figure she’ll either kick her while she’s down, or this’ll be the first step on the long path towards, if not friendship, then mutual respect.
It’s almost like they may…. settle grudges?
(Sorry, but when will that joke be appropriate again? XD)
Probably never, I’d reckon. ๐
Although, they shouldn’t take my name for an example in this case. It’s a Warhammer Fantasy reference, and the Dwarves there will hold grudges for generations, waiting for the opportunity to extract recompense, either in gold or blood.
So yeah, “settle grudges” in the way my name implies, not the best choice to avoid murders and whatnot.
Agh… How am I going to wait until Friday to find out what happens next?
All I can think is that someone’s feeling guilty.
Here’s a theory: In order to cope with cold Selkie-kin speed up their metabolism. They do this by the obvious mechanism of moving around a lot quickly. However because their above surface respiration can’t cope well with strenuous activity, gumming up and needing to be flushed out with water, they deal with cold by getting into the water. Their natural inclination to move about more in cold weather has led to small Selkie getting exercise induced “Asthma” so the adults have a routine of making her stay still when she is cold – something that she hasn’t avoided because the colder it is the quicker exertion messes up her breathing. And of course when she has to stay still in cold weather she really feels it. But perhaps the poor child can handle icy cold water just fine. She’ll just need to eat like a one-person school of piranha in order to replace the calories she burns.
Oo- liking this.
That.. would make sense.
Thanks for the ride. Ups, downs, peril, humor, touching moments. Thanks. Honestly it does not matter that the next strip is one less day away. ๐
Why am I suddenly even more deeply concerned for Selkie’s safety? ๐
So…are the teachers and principal about to get a front row seat to her freaky alien biology?
