Yesss, protective papa. Not that it’s not a good idea, but I think people should just be allowed to be how they were meant to be, without interference. How will she learn to control anything if they keep giving her cheatcodes?
Is it cheat codes or more like training wheels on a bike until she learns how to balance better. It is hard to learn too many things all at the same time. We start kids off on tricycles so that they understand how the peddles and the stearing wheel works. It is the same with swimming, where you work with getting kids familiar with the water and the motions but still keep the flotation safety devices on until they have progressed far enough.
Selkie ended up in the deep end (and was possibly born there) without being given time to get used to the basics without hurting herself. I do wonder if she would even fully feel safe using her powers again after a scare like that. She might be cautious around another inhibitor as well, due to the complications the first one caused. You want her to be safe and feel safe, as you don’t want her fearing her own capabilities. A healthy respect is wonderful, but fear is an entirely different animal and can be irrational as well as having an effect on her psyche (Frozen comes to mind).
Amanda had quite the total inhibitor to help her at first. Of course, it was due to necessity more than anything else, but she learned to manage without it and seems to be doing fine now overall.
Of course, Amanda only had it for a few months, so long time expousure is a different thing, especially with monitoring the effects neglected for several years, like with Selkie’s trinket.
