When he isn’t expecting to interact with humans, his collar’s setting stays in Tensei.
Today's edition of the Secret Commentary is empty, because Dave failed to come up with something for it.
When he isn’t expecting to interact with humans, his collar’s setting stays in Tensei.
Ooof.
This whole strip screams “Would you buy a used car from this man?”
I wouldn’t buy a tricycle tire from him!
Both despicable Sarnothi…still I’d like to see where this is going.
Well, let’s be fair here; Scar WAS despicable. And because of it, he learned a very hard, very painful, very serious lesson. A lesson that could very well have killed him.
He’s reflected on his actions, knows and understands what a horrible person he had been, and is taking steps to make up for it. His decision to change doesn’t absolve him of his past wrongs, but he is actively trying to be a better person. And he HAS shown that he has changed for the better in his actions and personality.
He saved Todd’s life when the eel attacked and broke his helmet. He’s dedicated to helping his fellow Sarnothi with his Echo powers. He’s warm, friendly, and intelligent. He’s supportive and caring. He doesn’t take the eel-schmidt from others. He understands and accepts that he can’t take his place as Selkie’s father, but shows gratitude when Todd agrees to let him be a family friend instead.
Did he make horrible decisions in his past that probably resulted in horrible things happening to other Sarnothi? Oh scales yes! But people can be screwups and work to reinvent themselves for the better and try to dedicate the rest of their lives to proving that. In essence, Scar is Ebeneezer Scrooge, with much darker undertones than simple greed.
why do i always read Then in Neil Patrick Harris’s voice?
LOL!
Oh my gods! I HAVE been doing that! LoL
It suits him. I’m doing it now.
Honestly? I’m hearing more of a David Spade ala Kuzco… but NPH works too! ;D
Wait, so the collar sets for translation? THAT explains so much of his stilted English! He never actually LEARNS English!
I genuinely like Then. He makes me laugh. The irony of his position is not lost on him. Also, I think he just plain enjoys antagonizing ‘Scar’, and I’m here for it. It’s almost like he *can’t* speak plainly. “No cat, no how, never gave a straight answer, never.” to butcher a quote from the Last Unicorn 🙂
I also like Then. I don’t get why he’s supposed to be unlikable.
I feel like, “throwing you out” is not a good threat in an underwater culture.
“Behave, or I shall strongly push you in a direction that lets you quickly float to a stop before you hit anything solid.”
“…………So what?”
Kinda has all the severity of “I shall break this soap bubble over your head!”
