I think Tehk’s parents were killed during the war and he is being raised by his Aunt and Uncle, I remember Selkie telling Todd this around when Tehk was first introduced, he was being dropped off by his uncle. Makes sense why Tehk wanted this tech repaired if it is the only picture he has of his Mom and Dad left. Poor Minnow…. (I was going to say Kiddo, but felt Minnow worked)
Seems likely. That adult male in the image has a rounder face than the “Father-brother” who picks Tehk up from school, and the “freckles” on the cheeks match too.
The couple who picks Tehk up are narrower of face and have under-eye swish markings, which these two lack.
I doubt that it’s possible; the film that might work under water, as it’s all sealed, comes in packs with flat-pack batteries to drive the motors which operate the cameras (SX-70, Super Shooters, and the like) and the film which might work in manual cameras is not sealed.
Credentials:
I have three fully-functional SX-70s and a Super Shooter (in the shop pending the installation of a pinhole) and a pack of type 55 4X5 b&w film for a view camera. I also have a vintage Holga and Diana and a dozen rolls of Verichrome Pan.
You could definitely engineer an instant camera that works underwater. You’d just have to have a compartment that the picture gets printed into that can then be sealed off.
So step one, take the picture.
Step two, print the picture into water tight chamber.
Step three, close the seal between printer and chamber.
Step four, remove photo from chamber.
Step five, pump water out of chamber.
Ready to print again.
Alternatively have watertight e-photo frames (maybe powered using Sarnothi tech!) that the camera can transfer images to wirelessly.
But the REAL question, I don’t know if it’s been address, so Sarnothi even see in color? If their vision is greyscale for example then there would be no need for color photos.
They may not work correctly RIGHT NOW… but now that Polaroid Kodak, Fuji, etc. have a BRAND NEW MARKET… i guarantee that somebody will be working on it as soon as Echo-Tech cameras/pictures go public… heck, even if they never acknowledge that Echoes exist, “somebody” is going to work on providing them the ability to take pictures underwater that’s more affordable/user friendly that what is currently available today.
So was Tehk adopted and that’s his biological family there?

I believe it’s been stated that Tehk currently lives with his aunt and uncle.
So yeah, makes you wonder what happened to his parents.

Called it.
Yep.
Oh, so his mom is from the tribe with no skin marks?
I KNEEEEW IT
Oh, that’s nice. Makes me sad.
Beautiful, just beautiful
So, missing the point I know, but if Echotech can only display photos in two-color, thats one area humantech has them beat on.
But can polaroids operate underwater and as I said that I remembered that underwater cameras are a thing.

Given the size of the device, best shown in scale here https://selkiecomic.com/comic/selkie1672/, it’s not a very big photo. Maybe it works better underwater.
… listen. I grew up on shows where the thirty foot tall robot could transform into a nine inch tall radio. I don’t understand scale.
The projection dial just needs adjusting.
(And Soundwave superior!)
Transformers used Timelord tech, bigger on the inside to store their extra parts 😂
Nailed it!
