Yeah, I have a feeling my dislike of Amanda is only going to grow. The question is will the adults actually do the right thing this time or not? Of course I could be wrong, she could be turning over a new leaf…
It took me a second read; at first I thought the dragon was supposed to be Selkie but now I’m sure it’s meant to be Amanda. So it sounds like Amanda either wants Tehk to show her how to do the glowy-eyes thing too (hah) or to tell her more about the lake colony?
As for ‘why’ I don’t know, but I’d guess as a way to get under Selkie’s skin.
I’m so unsure about how much Amanda envy’s Selkie at the moment.
Todd is handsome and powerful, in a stern protective way, but Andi is carefree and wild and wacky, and fun in ways Todd cant be (at the moment). Andi seems like the fun parent, and Todd the grumpy parent, … but perhaps that is all just appearances because Amanda perceives Selkie to be the chosen one, and Amanda as the rescued one. I serzly doubt that Amanda has a clue that Andi only went looking for her to have a reason for Todd to reunite with her.
I doubt that Andi has that even figured out — much less Amanda.
(Rant) The more ‘screen’ time that Mandy gets, the more her history hurts my heart. The more we see of her psyche, the more I hurt for her past and her present. I bedoubt me very much that Mandy has put 1+1 together to get Andi and Todd back together to make a family, yet I do see how your comment has started me down the rabbit-hole of logic that leads to Amanda thinking that she could have both a Mother AND a father, both! if she could get Todd away from Selkie, or Selkie away from Todd. I do not believe that she wishes more of Selkie than to be rid of any impediments that keep herself from collecting a full set of family members; “gotta get them all!”**
Well, kids tend to /be/ selfish to the point of sociopathy until they learn empathy and understand that other people are real too.
And if you’ve been hurting badly enough for long enough, your moral compass tends to shrink down to “Will this make it hurt less?” and to hell with anyone else.
** mentioning, here, that we have heard nothing from Mandy questioning or even mentioning about Ma McC. since that one instance where Andi said something to the effect of: Oh Look! Shiny!” when Mandy asked about her Other Grandmother, before.
Well, there was the whole thing at the Christmas gathering with Todd’s family where Amanda overheard Andi arguing with *her* mother on speakerphone. Andi wanted to bring Amanda by since it was Christmas, Ma McC wanted nothing to do with it – and Amanda heard her say it. So…I can kinda see why the subject’s not come up again, at least for now.
That’s Right, … Thank you for remembering that correctly, and posting that, it had slipped my brain cell. She Did overhear that and I’d forgotten. Ma McC must have been So hurt by Andi’s father to be that bitter. No doubt, Dave has a redemption arc planned for her -somewhere, vague, off in the distant future,… In theory…
I dug out my copy of Pilots Choice so I could get the full quote.
“The thing to recall about Dragons is that it takes a special person to deal with them at all. If you lie to them they will steal from you. If you attack them without cause they will dismember you. If you run from them they will laugh at you.
“It is thus best to deal calmly, openly and fairly with Dragons: Give them all they buy and no more or less, and they will do the same by you. Stand at their back and they will stand at yours. Always remember that a Dragon is first a Dragon and only then a friend, a partner, a lover.
“Never assume that you have discovered a Dragon’s weak point until it is dead AND forgotten, for joy is fleeting and a Dragon’s revenge is forever.

It’s worth noting that Clan Korval’s crest is a Dragon flying over a Tree with the motto “I Dare” and that Liadens are expected to be familiar with heraldry. The quote may thus be interpreted to refer to Korval, and not necessarily to mythological beings.
That laat expression fills me with foreboding…

I hope this isn’t just a “Selkie has something, so Amanda wants it too” thing.
I think it is XD
Amanda is looking better and better with the long hair.

I thought Amanda and Selkie were getting along better now (not saying friendly per se, but better than before).
Also, to be fair, does there really need to be a reason for a kid to want to learn magic other than “because it’s magic”?
Ooor Amanda’s backsliding and wants Tehk to tell her alll about how to mock Selkie’s Clan.
I’m so unsure about how much Amanda envy’s Selkie at the moment.

Oho. Amanda has figured out that knowledge is power.
Yeah, this bodes well for no one.
And I can’t wait to see how it plays out!
Please don’t let this be her looking for another way to torment Selkie…
Unlike Tank, Amanda hasn’t yet faced and understood that she hurt Selkie. Or that she was in the wrong. Not unless it has occurred to her off screen.

Her trying to “take” Todd from Selkie and get her abandoned would cement her firmly in villain territory, if not outright sociopath territory.

Never take dragons lightly!
“Meddle not in the affairs of dragons,
for you are crunchy, and good with ketchup!”
“Never assume you have discovered a Dragon’s weak point until it is dead AND forgotten, for joy is fleeting and a Dragon’s revenge is forever.”
…you’re just reminding me of how wrong the dragon’s revenge went in Order of the Stick.
brrrr
Dug out my Dragonslayer DVD, and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Can’t believe I first saw it 38 years ago.
Ed, I’ve checked the correct response with my students, and they advise “LOL”.
lightdefender, you’re on my list of designated advisers. Just stay handy.
Kilyle, blimey, way t’go Vaarsuvius…

“It’s just a boring old orange.”
“I don’t see what you mean.”
