Busy Weekend

I’m very sorry everyone, but this weekend was very busy and I didn’t have time to get a strip finished for today.
Story will resume Wednesday.
Today's edition of the Secret Commentary is empty, because Dave failed to come up with something for it.
Yes, sometimes it sucks like a …brand-new vacuum.
Or a vortex in a PotC movie.
*sends hope and best wishes*
..or an obliging girlfriend.
I hope that Dave had some interesting and enjoyable obligations that kept him busy so that he was also very happy and very well rested.
So.. when do you book vacation and how do you do that? Cos you are entitled to 4%.
No worries Dave! Not like you’re just a comic-dispensing machine. Real life gets in the way sometimes so best wishes!
It sucks, but shit happens. We understand. Don’t worry about it.
*gasp*
How dare you have a life. What’s wrong with you? This is borderline inhuman!
Don’t you mean borderline HUMAN ?
I think Spring Pop was referring to torturing us with the suspense. I hope he wasn’t referring to if Dave was “really human” or a shape-shifter. I hate it when you think you are talking to the real one, but it turns out it’s the evil twin, like Lor and Data from STtNGen.
^ moments went an lol button instead of like button would be handy.
Life happens. I hope everything is okay with you.
Well said.
Don’t sweat it, we’ll be here whenever.
It’s all good, real life happens (even other songs that aren’t Send Me an Angel!)
Handle business, and we’ll see you when you get back, and enjoy the continued story.
Thank you for all of your hard work.
Hope all is well, we’ll be here when you get back. 🙂
Real life happens! You’re a person who has an actual life, not our comic making slave! Have you ever considered taking a week or two (or more) off, to build up buffer pages?
I’ve butted heads with myself before over taking a brief 1-2 week “hiatus” to do just that, and in the past I’ve felt that I don’t want to go two weeks without providing an update to the comic’s ongoing narrative.
But now I’m wondering if it wouldn’t be a good idea, maybe even after this arc finishes, to put out a call for guest comics and take a couple weeks to buffer-build.
This past weekend was very good, full of time spent with loved ones, but it still resulted in a lack of comic-making time. Between that and all the comics coming up late or partially-done lately, I’m beginning to agree with the Build Your Buffer camp a bit.
Do it! Just don’t cliffhanger us. Two weeks without Selkie won’t kill us, or inspire excessive whining. But I make no promises about 3 weeks. 🙂
I think it would be a good idea. 2-4 weeks would give you plenty of time to get some pages built up, and would help alleviate future stress. All of us here LOVE Selkie, but a break would be worth it to help you out. If you took a nice 2 week uploading break between arcs to work on a buffer, you’d eventually build up quite a hefty one!
I second the idea of taking some time to build up a buffer! Of course, I’ll miss Selkie dearly during that time, but if it means you don’t have to stress so much to get up a completed page in time, I think that’s a win. Good luck with dealing with real life!
Oh nos! Call it “letting the anticipation build”. Best of luck with everything.
Like others have said, we understand. Thank you for taking the time to let us know when to expect a new page. I agree with the others who recommended taking time of to build a buffer. I’d miss Selkie but I’d definitely be here when you resume posting. Alternatively you might consider doing as Jennie Breeden (The Devil’s Panties) does. She sometimes posts random artwork of hers, unrelated to the storyline, or her roughest first draft (stick figures). It’s usually entertaining or at least interesting to see a different side or stage of the artist’s talent.
Not a problem. You have to make sure you can live your life.
Take your time.
Good luck out there, eh?
Eep! I hope everything’s alright, and it was good things that kept you occupied!
No problem, best wishes.
Yer fine, Dave:) We look forward to more on Wednesday!
You owe us no apology. We will keep coming back for your story, and we wouldn’t be human if we didn’t figure things happen sometimes.
No problemo. Wednesday is cool! 🙂
Disappointed, but I completely understand real life happening. Take care of yourself, and we’ll see you in the future! Cheers!
Just want to let everyone know, this past weekend was NOT bad! It was a fun weekend filled with time spent with loved ones. It was just so packed I didn’t have my usual comic-making time Sunday evening. Seeing a few well-wishes and I don’t want anyone to worry unduly. Everything’s fine, the weekend was good, it was just busy.
I’m putting consideration into taking the oft-offered advice to take a 1-2 week hiatus to build the comic buffer up. Maybe put out a call for guest strips. Still thinking about it.
Dave, I wouldn’t worry about taking time off to enjoy yourself once in a while. All the webcomic producers do it once in a while. Some even have planned downtime they tell people about ahead of time. In fact, you’re the only webcomic producer (that I read) that puts a page up come hell or high water.. even if it’s just the first draft!
If taking a two week hiatus once in a while to build a buffer bothers you so much, may I suggest doing something I’ve seen one of the other webcomics that I read regularly do.. They produce some really simple filler art (your own or others). Or background writings to the main story (like character and/or race descriptions). Or side story with VERY simplistic drawings. See http://www.starpowercomic.com for an example of what I mean. It doesn’t have to be a big affair and it satisfies the audience and leaves you feeling guilt-free and able to get the most out of your hiatus.
Dude, a missed update here & there (with a proper little post letting us know that you didn’t fall off the face of the earth) is a non-issue. Life happens, and aside from the occasional crazy-person/troll on the comments, I thinks it’s safe to say we all get it & would rather you take care of yourself/not rush to put out something you wouldn’t feel good with putting out there than the alternative.
At least it was a game cliffhanger & not something like the Truck confrontation (that would’ve been nuts)
So, take care, do whatever life needs of you, & we’ll all still be here Wednesday 😀
If you need a break, take a break. Fans will still be here when you get back.
It’s cool, man. “Life is what happens to you, while you’re busy making other plans.” We’ll be here.
That’s fine. We know it happens. I hope you get it all sorted.
Like everyone else says, it’s cool. We understand.
Me, what I like best is when the artist takes a break, announces when the next comic will appear… and then it does, exactly as promised! That makes me smile happily. It makes me trust the artist. There are two parts to this. Promise a date, whatever date makes sense to you. Then keep the promise. That’s it! That’s all I really care about. The length of the break? That’s entirely up to you.
As for a buffer, why not try it out? Some artists can treat “keeping the buffer filled” as a hard deadline. Some can’t — they need the pressure of an imminent posting being due. If there are finished pages queued up in the buffer it’s just too easy for them to let things slide until the buffer is empty again. The only way you can find out if a buffer will work for you is to give it a try. So go for it!
I demand you work on it every day now. You must make up for my distress. And with this I am done being stupid for this day.
