I’m taking my PC into a shop for repairs and don’t know yet when it will be done, so I am calling a hiatus until next week. Please be aware that comments left on this post may be deleted, as I might remove this to preserve archive flow
Today's edition of the Secret Commentary is empty, because Dave failed to come up with something for it.
Good luck getting it fixed! What’s it doing, specifically?
BSODs, first intermittently then more frequently. I’ve swapped RAM GPU and PSU without anything being fixed. 🙁
Have you updated (or reverted any recent updates) your drivers? A crappy driver can cause BSODs.
It turned out to be a bad RAM channel. 😡
Glad you got it fixed!
Oof, so motherboard replacement? 😬
Just recently rebuilt my computer (same GFX, optical, audio, and old hard drives, but new mobo, CPU, PSU, and boot NVMe SSD); *such* a pain!
Hope your PC gets fixed! Sucks when that happens. Take all the time you need!
Hey Dave is there anywhere we can donate? Computer stuff gets expensive fast I can’t give much but I’m sure a few regular readers would love to chip in a little.
He has a patreon! I’m not subscribed since I’m mega poor, but if you search his name (Dave warren) on patreon you’ll find him
It seems the world has decided everyone gets time off for the first week of July. Cause my work just gave me a mandated week paid vacation for maintenance.
I’ve heard rumors of this happening to W11 computers allowed to sleep instead of shutting down and rebooting, and the exact opposite of rebooting every day and still getting BSOD or just a black screen with no error messages.
I have had the black screen on my laptop. Shutting down helped.
Computers are dumb!

Dave, would you care to drop a note into this thread summarizing the problems and the fix(es)?

It started last winter honestly, with periodic BSOD crashes, but seemed to get better after doing some driver cleanup, although still very infrequently happening, like I may come home to a log-in screen since it crashed during the day but ran fine the rest of the night.
Problem got worse the last couple weeks, crashing while playing games or running photoshop, started trying to pin down possible driver issues. I wiped and reinstalled Windows 10 and still had the crashes, so then I moved to replacing components (RAM and PSU, the PSU I needed to replace anyway though it was underpowered for my rig’s needs). Still had the issues.
Gave up on trying to home-remedy solve it and took it to a local shop I trust. Diagnosis was a bad RAM channel on the motherboard. They replaced the motherboard, and so far it’s been stable all weekend. Been stress testing it by having multiple apps open, no issues. I think Im good now, and as a side perk that has my credit card crying, with RAM PSU and MOBO replaced I practically have a new PC. XD
Woo!
It’s good to have you back. I like Nei Li/Sel Kie.
