I’m kind of hoping that once this is presented to him, Pohl will let Selkie try to fix whatever this is – once Pohl has told her *what* it is and what it does, so she has some kind of sense of what/how it’s broken. And that Pohl or Scar can fix it if Selkie can’t.
But yeah, Amanda in that last panel is spot on! I’m glad this wasn’t the horrible and dire thing I was expecting it to become. (Yet. đ )
You’re having a little trouble with spelling there today. Second panel – you have an S in the word don’t. 5th panel – you left the apostrophe out of the word I’m.
I just realized that it has me replying to you. I don’t know why.
Maybe this comment board just doesn’t like me. I have attempted to reply to other people before, and it will have me start a new thread. So now when I try to start a new thread, it has me reply to someone else. :(. :p
I do like the implication where they have the kind of wary half-friendly social relationship where he could just ask for a favor and she might actually just do it for him.
If Amanda and Selkie don’t go to an adult about this I’ve lost all faith in them. By the time I was their age I knew when something was wrong. He literally just told them he’s not supposed to have it around humans. For all they know it’s an explosive.
He still thinks Selkie made Amanda’s barrette. And he’s been told they aren’t allowed to have Sarnothi tech around humans. Could be he thinks one or both of them have broken some rules.
I mean, he’s *right.* Just not in the way he thinks.
Amanda is asking the real questions tbh. The fact that she recognizes that he might just not know how to ask for help speaks to her emotional intelligence. She’s probably had a few sessions about that herself, come to think of it.
I think itâs more a case of him threatening to expose her immediately after admitting that he, himself, has something around humans that he shouldnât, which literally just gives her the power yo be like âif you expose me, Iâll tell everyone that you have a device around them that you shouldnât have.â He just gave her blackmail fuel.
I wonder if Sarnothi have something in particular in common with Homo sap, like the difference in brain maturation rates between males and females. On the whole (and I could easily vague this up a bit more, with no citations whatsoever) , female brains have matured my about eighteen years, and males by their mid-twenties. In my case it was about 29 years. Tekh could be a poster child for this.
I did kind of say that, except not about romance. What I want to avoid is a âTodd outlives his daughterâ or âSelkie watches all her friends and family dieâ fridge horror moment

That’s the fourth panel, not the 5th. You need to learn how to spell, and I need to learn how to count. đ
Normally, I don’t like errors either. But this story is so “twisty” right now I don’t care! Good work, Dave!
I was super confused until I realized you were talking to Dave! đ

He can be both, Amanda.

Sarnothi are not supposed to have any Echo tech around humans. Which is why it’s confusing that Amanda’s barrette didn’t have a ribbon hiding it.
Or he could… ask Selkie directly? lol
Ah, but he doesn’t have anything on Selkie directly! How you can make request without leverage? What is this “favor” I hear speak of?
But what makes him think Amanda has leverage over Selkie?!

I don’t remember if she has a therapist but if she does it might be related to that too.

I think Dave has said that in order to avoid any weird situations (like romance), Sarnothi age/mature at pretty much the same rate as humans.
I did kind of say that, except not about romance. What I want to avoid is a âTodd outlives his daughterâ or âSelkie watches all her friends and family dieâ fridge horror moment
So this fits in with my above supposition if true.
