For those wondering where Grandma and Aunt Marta got to, Marta’s been talked into a dress-up session.
In my background thought processes, the orphanage has carefully observed regulations against things like kissing, for the kid's protection.
For those wondering where Grandma and Aunt Marta got to, Marta’s been talked into a dress-up session.
With every word, I like Marta more and more.
Ditto! She’s quickly becoming my favorite semi-major character- next to the grandmother.
Awwww, quick, big group hug around Selkie.
Well… the headpiece is pretty?
Yes I like the Headpiece. but the dress I would have them call the cops too!
Poor kid. If she didn’t have enough to deal with–Todd, a hug with both
arms would be a really good idea about now!
Does this ‘poison’ of hers affect everyone? I have a feeling Marta or
one of the grandparents may offer to double-check that. And hopefully
there’s a solution or at least a way to mitigate the reaction to her saliva.
In Panel 4, I think there’s a piece of dialogue missing: the word “in” to make it “in my wedding dress” ?
No, no… See, this all takes place in Soviet Russia, where dresses wear brides!
No, it’s a valid idiom. “She fits the dress” is fine.
And the award for a missed joke goes toooooo…
Aaaand now I wanna just sit here and hold Selkie. Poor thing. Too young to really understand, just able to understand that Todd is having a reaction to her. (Let us hope that Amanda never finds out.)
“Something old, something new, something borrowed and something periwinkle”
Aww, Selkie looks kinda pudgy there in panel 1. 🙂
She could do what my sister did at her wedding. My mom’s old wedding dress was ruined by mice, so sis cut a bit of the skirt and veil and had it sown into her own gown.
I’m happy this thing is resolved in a solid way… amazing job with the writing in the past few strips… it felt like it could fall apart at any moment and you kept it going in a way that made me both want to keep reading and never actually made me sad… but the pressure was there the whole time.
Also, giving a child who is picked on weaponized saliva seems like it could open up a lot of problems… Though honestly I’m kinda surprised she’s never bitten anyone…
Only a little!
That is not exactly what you want to tell your recently acquired relatives, in that particular manner ^^; Still, I assume it will get explained in the next comic.
I like the headpiece on the dress outfit!
“I poisoned Dads.”
Aww sweety… that’s nothing. I ran over mine. Trust me, they get over little things like that.
Lol. My brother did the same thing! Well technically he ran over the bikes which fell over dad who dented the garage door…
In my own defence, my dad should’ve known not to ask a 6(?) year old, who didn’t know the difference between a hood release and a hand brake, if he wanted to help daddy fix the car.
So, she’s never tried to give someone a ‘wet willy’?
Considering what just a closed-mouth peck does to Todd’s skin, I wouldn’t want a finger full anywhere near my ears~ XD
The girl has claws. I think she would have been told not to stick them, wet or dry, in to other people’s orifices.
I’m thinking about how incredibly starved for affection the children at the orphanage would have to be if no one ever kissed them. How heartbreaking would it be to lose your parents and then never have a goodnight kiss after that if you’re an older orphan. What about the babies? They have babies, they need affection.
You can show affection without kisses. Hugs are good too.
Selkie reacted better than I had expected. I’d predicted an irrational anger toward Todd because she wouldn’t know how to deal with it.
I am sure they will figure out an affectionate gesture that will work for them both. Maybe a forehead touch or something.
I think what sucked out the irrational anger is the fact that she clearly does not know what she is, where she is from or anything. She’s use to people picking, teasing and making up lies about things she didn’t do or can’t do. So having it confirmed that her kisses are poisonous probably knocked the wind out of the anger she had.
I still say they should handle this like mad scientists and have her “kiss” a few random things (or different family members) to test some theories. Would be an amusing way to soften the severity of the situation.
Hugs. Hugs fix EVERYTHING.
About how old is Selkie?
She’s eight.
When is her birthday?
May 24th
We seriously need to do some testing here.
You’ve got five people, and while they are legally related, none are blood related. So you see if the poison spit reacts on them. If not, so Selkie thinks it’s only on Todd, and then one day she slobbers on Amanda, and BOOM – rash. http://www.dramabutton.com/
She’s crying. Check her tears. Maybe, if her nose is running, check her snot. This is science, people, so no “ewwww”s allowed.
Since her people eat their prey live, maybe this is a hunting thing, like rattlesnakes or wasps, to make it easier to catch ’em. Or maybe it’s a protective thing, like with toads. Ever see a dog that’s caught a toad? Starts foaming at the mouth and coughing and spitting. A toad’s skin secretes poison.
I wonder what would happen if she put a ph test strip in her mouth.
Thanks!!!
Actually, poison is something that needs to be ingested to be harmful. Selkie is venomous, which means the substance she produces can be harmful when applied to the skin or injected into the lymphatic system.
