“Too early for people to be stupid”? Well, at least we know the eight-year-old isn’t hanging out at all-night coffee shops in the wee hours of the morning.
Oh noes, even worse thought: Andi shows up and ends up seeing these two together in a similar situation (paint/craziness against Amanda) and thinks that Zeri is Amanda, says as much (or a “I was just like that as a kid” type statement) and gets a really bad first impression with Amanda.
Or things will go well, and stuff is all good & shiny.
No, I don’t think there’s any way that everything will be “all good and shiny.” Not after Dave has spent years adding layer after layer of depth to Amanda’s animosity toward both Selkie and her parents for dropping her off (and therefore Andi by extension for dropping her off in the first place). There’s absolutely no way that there won’t be numerous explosions along the way for this, whether Andi thinks Zeri is Amanda or not.
That’s kinda why it was put as a completely separate, non-fleshed out statement. It’s such an improbable outcome that I had to put it out there for the sake of snark.
Plus, given that nothing has been completely perfect for anyone in the comic (though Todds siblings seem to be doing alright) the whole idea of everything going well with this meeting is slightly absurd. Amanda is a force of nature, and while Andi can be forceful/adamant, she’s also been quite the pushover/non-confrontational in the past.
I’m just imagining that Amanda’s morning isn’t going to improve much/at all, then Andi’ll show up (and the kids seem to know whenever there’s some new/unknown adult there) and Amanda will already be in a foul mood. She’ll be sulking somewhere (but still be close enough to hear), Andi will assume Zeri is Amanda and call out to her by name. Lilian will have been distracted by some minor disaster, so she’s temporarily out of the scene, Zeri doesn’t quite get what’s going on, but decides to play along (why not?) and Amanda hears, looks to see what’s going on, and Andi confesses to Zeri while Amanda is in a doorway, with all kinds of emotions clashing. Then things will really start to happen (though I’m not sure if Amanda will get angry enough to try to hit Andi)
It’s a good theory. But you’d think Andi will have received a picture by now just to prevent such a thing from happening. More likely, Andi talks to Amanda and confuses her interests being artistically and starts talking to the already angry girl about art. Amanda puts up with it for a minute then lets loose on the ill prepared Andi.
Hair color can change quite a lot from birth through childhood, I’ve see some people’s baby pictures (or witnessed the kid growing) where they’re blonde babies and have drastically different hair as they’ve aged.
Reddish to blonde isn’t that big a change, plus Todd is blonde, and who knows how aware of the hair color Andi was when she gave Amanda up? It seemed like her mom railroaded that process, and I’m guessing from birth to signed-away only took an hour at most (if even that long)
Anyway, it’s all speculation and we’ll see how things progress as they progress.
Why do I get the feeling Zeri and Sandy are good friends?
Funny you said that – Dave has Sandy listed in the tags but none of the girls on this page even look like her.
I think she’s in the second panel, in the bed in the upper right hand corner.
Top-right corner of panel two. She’s so small though I dunno why I bothered tagging her. XD
yet, you DIDN’T tag Zeri?
At this time, Zeri’s role to play is short.

How in the world did she get her hands on the finger paints in the first place? Seems too easy.
You’d be surprised how easy it is to jimmy the locks on cabinets.
They’d have child locks. Those ain’t as easy.
At eight, they’re quite easy to unlock. As they’re more for babies and toddlers.
I have to agree. I’ve seen 5 year olds get into child safety locks pretty easily.
Child locks are designed for kids to easily access and adults to swear at for hours before giving up and asking Junior to open for them.
Is that a Shaun of the Dead reference I spy?
ha ha ha ha ha…this is going to end badly.
Given Amanda’s tendency to get violent I predict Zeri will soon be in a great deal of pain, Amanda will be in trouble, and Andi will be in shock.
She is also SEEING red. FLY you fool! FLY!
Fun, but…
In the second to last panel it’s Zeri’s right hand hitting a face, but in the last panel it’s a left-hand print.
i just figured it smeared, and the ‘thumb’ is because Amanda’s eye is open. Like, if her right eye was closed, it would look more like a blob.
You have way too much time on your hands.
Yeah that’s a flub, woops.
No worries. I’ve been enjoying the comic so far, thought I’d mention it in case is wasn’t on purpose.
Keep on keepin’ on!
I wonder what Amanda will think of a Modern Artist who does weird things like spike shoes into walls and splatter paint all over.

I also wonder what will happen when Amanda realizes that she might be leaving Kiesha behind.

In the flashback, there is red/brown fuzz on the babies head, so I don’t think she’ll think Zeri is her daughter.

Oh man, Zeri looks like the sort of kid I might spawn – utterly frickin’ random and full of WHEEEE!!!
No Zeri! Don’t mess with Amanda!
“Can’t stop the rock” Wasn’t that a Stryper album? Lol
I know it from an Apollo 440 song, although it could have been a cover for all I know.
I was teasing. It was an album actually from 1991.
