Did some Youtube crawling over the weekend, so if you need a quick drama break, please enjoy these videos by one of my favorite groups, The New Pornographers.
(lyrics and content are not actually pornographic.)
I think Jessie takes very strongly after a somewhat-negative trait I have: when panicked, I default to the truth.
A long day for the teachers, it seems. x u x
Papa bear Todd!
I’m continuing to be unimpressed by this school system.
Seems realistic to me—possibly *decent* compared to a lot of real ones.
I agree..that’s the problem…
anyone else wonder if Selkie is going to end up transferred to another school?
Nope, then Dave will have to create an entire new cast for students and teachers. It may also cost to much money for Todd, and Selkie is already expensive due to her allergies and different biology system. Most parents try to work in the system first and do some scare stuff and pestering. Unfortunately that rarely works and sometimes just makes the kid a brighter target.
Good job! You lost your girlfriend her job! Why would anyone do that?
This sounds like girlfriend is one of those that doesn’t “think”. Buying too many shoes, running up credit card bills, screwing with girlfriend’s work…
I have a feeling that Jessie’s going to be single soon…
I hope that Todd calms down a bit, though, it was obviously a screw-up and only a single incident.
I should hope she’s single soon. Her girlfriend is horrible, insensitive and completely irresponsible. Someone needs to kick her lazy bum into the real world and she’ll see how society really works.
Just realized I forgot the dark circles under Jessie’s eyes. Will fix tonight. XD
The teacher can’t discuss the incident with Amanda and the OTHER kid, but she is certainly capable of discussing Selkie’s incidents with Amanda…
Overhearing a conversation doesn’t give Amanda a “pass” on that in any case.
First the incident with Heather, which the school didn’t exactly handle perfectly, and now this. Looks like there will be some heads rolling. Given the difficulties Jessie’s had in her new job, this may very well be the last straw for her.
I don’t know about that. I think he’s more liable to take it out on the teacher than Jessie, given that he’s met and interacted with Jessie before; she’s visibly upset by it and clearly didn’t let it happen intentionally. You could argue the final check of the homework sheets was also the teacher’s responsibility, not the TA’s, but I think we all know how valid that is now.
Granted, he is still in Papa Bear mode. Logic + Mama/Papa Bear mode don’t always go hand in hand.
So umm a little off topic but apparently the lapel pins are Gas Dryer safe XD mine did not lose the colouring after going through my gas-heated clothes dryer … yea fail me for forgetting it was there but hey at least it still looks the same as when I got it.
Lucky!
Glad to hear it survived. 😀
If I remember right, the coloring in the pins is fired enamel, which I believe means they are essentially ceramic. I kept one for myself and have it on the outer pocket of my bookbag. It’s been flopped around and banged into a few things but not even a scratch yet.
Bullying’s a bit hard to pin, one kids don’t report or recognize it as much as they should because they don’t want to be tattle tails, two it usually happens when they’re aren’t adults around to confirm it.
Ohhh this is clearly the beginning of a VERY exciting conversation, LOL.
Dave, just wanted to let you know, I got my Selkie pin today. It’s ADORABLE. Thanks! 😀
A realistic bit of self-reflection and empathy there. Selkie’s feelings about Amanda aren’t going to change overnight, and she can’t yet articulate her confusion, but she also sees things aren’t as black-and-white as she once thought.
I think overall the school and especially Mina handled the shirt-stealing incident competently, given they weren’t able to see the whole mess from behind the Fourth Wall. Though leaving a kid sitting topless in an office in tears is quite a lapse in compassion.
Jesse may well lose her job unless Mina really goes to bat for her and / or takes the flack about the pranked homework. I don’t think that’s what Todd would want, but with the stolen shirt that’s two disturbances that are connected with that particular class. If the principal gets wind of it, he may be looking for a head to lop.
It all really depends on if there’s a union for the teachers. Mina won’t get fired that easily if she’s part of a union. Jessie probably isn’t part of one though, so she can easily be fired in Mina’s place to satisfy angry parents.
Unions are horrible things in my opinion. They protect the people who don’t deserve it and hinder/harm the people who actually need it. Though, this isn’t really the case in this scenario.
Professional unions in general are a good thing. The whole 5-day work week, ~8 hours per day, having decent wages, having vacation time, being able to have sick days… all that’s thanks to unions. The whole “they protect people who don’t deserve it” is practically bulls**t, and used as scare tactics by those who want employers to be able to dow whatever they want with their employees, and to give employees less rights. If unions were stronger in the States, there’d be more people earning livable wages, rather than working and still ending up under the poverty line.
That’s as much as I’ll say of politics here – if you want to debate this further, I can direct you to a discussion forum where such things are discussed daily.
