Previously when Plo’Quar was on, they were listed in the tags… But Dave could realize we are on to that and did not list it because she didn’t actually “show up” in the comic.
Google tells me Unagi is Eel. Nice reference to their culture! However, I can’t help but wonder what would happen if some random person called that number who was genuinely hungry…
Probably the “No, I do not and have never had an account” is a precise code phrase. You have to say the whole thing exactly or they just sell you the sushi.
So my local IGA ended up getting a “sushi bar” where you could get made on demand sushi and they also had stuff they made, packaged and put on a shelf.
It was really popular for awhile because besides this you couldn’t get sushi in my area but after awhile the deli made sushi fad faded. It wasn’t even bad sushi, just really generic.
My favorite when I’m hung over is the dragon rolls with spicy mayo.
I suspect it’s point two or three, simply because both speakers seem to think Pohl and Scar would at least CONSIDER aiding the project of their own accord. I can’t see Pohl going back to the state that’s expelled his entire clan willingly, particularly given this and the fact that he has two very young and VULNERABLE children whose Echo abilities are probably still uncertain. (They can manifest young, but we know Selkie’s were exceptionally powerful, exceptionally young. At most, Suko’s gotten the “do you feel anything” test, and that’s at most.)
Which of the other two it is, or if it’s not a fourth option entirely… that I’m a lot less sure of.
Considering that Echos are slave labor, maybe they are rescuing them to transport to places where they can be integrated into human society. You don’t just go from the slave markets to a desk job. And one of the soldiers on the ship during their escape mentioned they were defecting from the war or whatever.
My guess is that we are seeing The Sarnothi Liberation Front at work. Nothing could be more useful to them than Echoes, but he can’t let his present employers know – since the US is not at present at war with the Emperor, the CIA can’t openly work with such a movement. And yes, i know they have a history of doing so clandestinely . but they would still need a clearance from above to do it. Also, for all he works for the CIA now, Then is Sarnothi and may not be to wild about letting the secret service of another state have too much say in this.
All of this is quite understandable, but I agree with Anime-Mun (below) thet there is a troubling undertone of ‘an offer you can’t refuse’ to his last words.
its a government phone those are generally secure lines. Encrypted to hell and gone. its why they often sound robotic to 1 disguise the voice. two to allow the encryption they minimize the vocal tones aand compress the hell out of it the difference in data content between a standard phone call and one of those encrypted phones is rather remarkable.
This could mean one of two things and neither of them I necessarily like.
One, those echoes just went from one slaver to another.
Two, they just became conscripted soldiers to take down the mad monarch.
Either way I’m not liking what Then is working towards now and am very concerned for Selkie and Amanda. If Avery ever figures this out I’m sure both him and Todd will be teaching him what it means to make a human father mad.
If it is that it has potential to not be as bad as it seems. I wouldn’t feel too bad if they got Manhattan project’d.as long as they were fair with them.
Like say, we’ll give you middle to upper middle class living conditions, a chance to save some money, and even lessons on how to eventually join our society (English, accounting, basic laws and safety concerns). In exchange, you help us build defensive equipment to defend against the city and possibly offensive gear to one day liberate it if it comes to that.
Wait.
MA’AM????
Could that possibly be Plo’Quar???

or: they freak out because of the farmer

Apu: “Cheese!” 😀
Photo Booth: “Good evening agent Johnson…”
I have a “solo an XL pizza in one sitting” appetite. My limit on sushi rolls is five. I could see ten being ordered for a party, but not a solo order.

So… funneling echoes back to the city, sending them to a side project, or hijacking them to study their powers? Place your bets.

That was the Principle.
Code words or not, it’s not very believable that he’d make such a call on his work phone, even if it does maintain the scene’s continuity.

I’m reminded of the secret project Marta mentioned at her place of work that seemed to be using Echo technology.

If he’s considering getting Pohl on board it can’t be anything too nefarious.
